# Triple Riding Challan — Fine for 3 Persons on Two-Wheeler
Three people on a motorcycle or scooter is dangerous and illegal in India. The fine is ₹1,000 under Section 128 of the MV Act.
The Law
A two-wheeler is designed for two persons maximum — the rider and one pillion passenger. Carrying a third person is prohibited regardless of age or body size.
Fine Amount
₹1,000 per offence. If the pillion or the third passenger is not wearing a helmet, additional ₹1,000 per person.
How Challans Are Issued
Traffic police issue these challans during peak hours at checkposts and busy junctions. Some states also use CCTV to detect triple riding.
