# Driving Without RC (Registration Certificate) — Challan Guide
The Registration Certificate (RC) is your vehicle's identity document. Driving without a valid RC — or with an expired RC — attracts a ₹5,000 fine under the MV Act 2019.
What Counts as a Valid RC
- RC issued by the RTO at time of registration
- RC must be renewed after 15 years (older vehicles)
- RC must reflect current address and owner name
Is Digital RC Valid?
Yes. Since 2021, the Digital RC available in the DigiLocker app or mParivahan app is legally valid and cannot be refused by police.
Fine Amount
₹5,000 for driving without a valid/current RC under Section 192 of the MV Act.
