# How to Pay Traffic Challan Online in India — Step-by-Step 2025

Paying your traffic challan online takes under 5 minutes. No office visits, no queues, no cash. Here is the complete step-by-step guide.

Method 1 — Pay at echallan.parivahan.gov.in (Recommended)

Step 1: Visit the Portal

Go to echallan.parivahan.gov.in on your phone or computer.

Step 2: Click "Check Challan Status"

You do not need to create an account.

Step 3: Enter Your Vehicle Number

Type your full vehicle number (e.g., DL 3C AB 1234) in the box. Enter the captcha and click "Get Detail."

Step 4: View Your Challans

All pending challans are listed with:

  • Violation type
  • Date and location of violation
  • Fine amount
  • Challan number

Step 5: Click "Pay Now"

Select the challan(s) you want to pay and click "Pay Now."

Step 6: Choose Payment Method

Options:

  • UPI (PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM)
  • Debit/Credit Card
  • Net Banking

Step 7: Complete Payment

Enter your UPI ID or card details and confirm. You will receive an instant payment confirmation.

Step 8: Download the Receipt

Download the PDF receipt. It shows challan number, payment reference, and date. Keep it for your records.

Method 2 — Pay via LearnDrive (Hands-Free)

If you're short on time or uncomfortable with the government portal:

Pay via LearnDrive — enter your vehicle number and challan amount, pay ₹49 service fee, and we clear it within 4 hours. You get an SMS confirmation.

Method 3 — Pay at Traffic Police Counter

Walk into any traffic police station with your challan number and pay cash. Slower but works for court challans that aren't on the portal.

Does the Portal Update Immediately?

The Parivahan portal typically updates within 24–48 hours of payment. If you have an RTO visit, carry your payment receipt as proof.

What About Court Challans?

Drunk driving, serious accidents, and repeat offences result in court challans. These must be paid in court, not online. Check with the court where the case is listed.
