# Check Traffic Challan by Driving Licence Number — Free Guide
Most people check challans by vehicle number, but the Parivahan portal also lets you look up challans using your driving licence (DL) number. This is useful when the challan was issued to the driver personally (rather than the vehicle).
When Is DL-Based Challan Issued?
- Driving without licence
- Drunk driving
- Racing/rash driving
- Violations where the police stopped you and checked your DL physically
Camera challans are typically linked to the vehicle number, not the DL.
Step-by-Step: Check by DL Number
1. Go to echallan.parivahan.gov.in
2. Click "Check Challan Status"
3. Select the "DL Number" tab
4. Enter your DL number — format varies by state:
- Delhi: DL-XXXXXXXXXX (numeric, 13 digits)
- Maharashtra: MH01XXXXXXXXX
- Karnataka: KA01XXXXXXXXX
5. Enter CAPTCHA and click "Get Detail"
You will see all challan records linked to your DL.
What If No Results Show?
If your DL has no challans, the page shows "No records found." This is normal for most drivers.
Paying DL-Based Challans
Click "Pay Now" on any listed challan. Payment by UPI or card. Download the receipt.
For court challans (drunk driving, serious offences), you cannot pay online — you must attend court.
Alternative: Use mParivahan App
Download the mParivahan app (Android/iOS). Log in with your mobile number, enter your DL details, and see all associated challans.
Need to clear a challan fast? Pay via LearnDrive — enter vehicle number and challan details, ₹49 fee, done in 4 hours.
Summary
DL-based challan lookup works for manually-issued challans linked to your licence. Camera challans show up under the vehicle number.
