# Check Traffic Challan in Mumbai — Free Online Guide 2025

Mumbai's traffic enforcement has gone almost entirely digital. The city has deployed hundreds of speed cameras, AI-based CCTV systems, and automated number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras across the Western Express Highway, Eastern Freeway, and major arterial roads. If you drive in Mumbai regularly, checking your MH-series challan status every few months is smart.

The Only Free Official Method

The official portal is echallan.parivahan.gov.in (central government). Maharashtra also has its own portal at mahatrafficapp.mahait.org for Mumbai Traffic Police. Both are free.

Step-by-Step: Check on Parivahan

1. Go to echallan.parivahan.gov.in

2. Click "Check Challan Status"

3. Select "Vehicle Number" tab

4. Enter your MH-series number (e.g., MH 01 AB 1234)

5. Enter the captcha and submit

You will see a list of all pending challans with violation type, date, location, and amount.

What Happens If You Don't Pay

Unpaid challans in Maharashtra result in:

  • Vehicle blacklisting at RTO
  • Refusal of fitness certificate renewal
  • Registration renewal blocked
  • Legal notice for repeat offenders
