# Challan Check by Vehicle Number — Free, Instant 2025
You can check all traffic challans against any Indian vehicle number for free in under a minute. No login, no fee, no app download required.
The Official Method (Free)
Step 1
Visit echallan.parivahan.gov.in — this is the central government's official echallan portal, run by the Ministry of Road Transport.
Step 2
Click the "Check Challan Status" button on the homepage.
Step 3
Select "Vehicle Number" tab (as opposed to "Challan Number" or "DL Number").
Step 4
Enter your vehicle registration number. Examples:
- DL 3C AB 1234
- MH 12 AB 5678
- KA 01 MF 9999
Spaces don't matter — the system accepts both formats.
Step 5
Enter the CAPTCHA code and click "Get Detail."
Step 6
All pending challans against that vehicle are listed instantly. You can see:
- Number of pending challans
- Violation type for each
- Date and location
- Fine amount
- Whether it's a court challan or e-challan
Is This Free?
Yes. The Parivahan portal does not charge for challan lookups. Any website charging you to check your challan is a scam or third-party aggregator.
Can I Check Anyone's Vehicle?
Yes — the lookup is public by design. The government made it public so vehicle buyers can check if a used car has pending challans before purchasing.
Alternate: Check via LearnDrive
Use LearnDrive's free challan check tool — same data, cleaner interface, and you can pay the challan in one go with a ₹49 service fee.
After Checking — What to Do
If you see challans:
1. Verify the violation details are correct
2. Pay online on the Parivahan portal or via LearnDrive
3. Download the payment receipt
If no challans are shown, you're clean. Recheck every 3 months if you drive frequently.
